How we handle your data when you use JsonFormatter
Last Updated: March 5, 2026
We take your privacy seriously. This document describes what we collect, how we use it, and how we safeguard it when you use JsonFormatter.
Summary
Your tool data stays on your device during normal usage. JSON, XML, YAML, CSV, and similar content are handled in your browser and are not stored on our servers unless you explicitly use a feature that requires server-side storage (such as temporary sharing links where available). We use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity for traffic and usability insights. We have never sold user information and will not do so. When you contact us, we use your details only to respond.
1. Data You Process (JSON, XML, YAML, etc.)
Data you paste or upload into our tools is processed locally in your browser. It does not leave your device during standard tool operations. We do not save, store, or access that payload content on our servers.
The exception is optional features that explicitly require storage (for example, temporary share links). In those cases, data is stored only as needed to provide the feature, and you are informed before sharing.
2. Cookies
We and our partners may use cookies for analytics, service improvement, and advertising. This includes cookies used by Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity, and Google AdSense.
You can revoke consent or manage cookie usage by clearing or blocking cookies in your browser. For guidance, see Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge.
3. Analytics & Session Insights
We use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to understand page usage, performance, navigation behavior, and UX friction points. This may include technical metadata such as page URLs, browser/device information, approximate location, referrer, and interaction events.
These tools are used for product improvement, troubleshooting, and reliability monitoring. We configure analytics to avoid collecting the structured tool payloads you process in formatter editors.

4. Advertising
To keep JsonFormatter free, we display ads via Google AdSense. Ad technologies may use cookies to personalize ads based on browsing behavior. We do not control ad content directly. For details and controls, see Google Ad Settings.
5. Contact
When you contact us by email, we collect your name, email address, and message content. We use this only to respond. We do not add you to marketing lists or sell your contact information. Messages are retained for up to 12 months for follow-up, then deleted.
6. Server Logs
Our servers may log basic technical data such as IP address, browser type/version, visited pages, date/time, and referrer. Logs are used for security, debugging, abuse prevention, and performance monitoring, and are automatically deleted after 30 days.
7. External Links
Our website links to third-party resources. Once you leave our site, we are not responsible for external privacy practices. Review their policies before sharing information.
8. Security
We use reasonable safeguards including HTTPS and secure hosting practices. No internet transmission is perfectly secure, but we minimize exposure by processing tool payload data locally where possible.
9. Children
Our services are not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us and we will remove it.
10. International Visitors
JsonFormatter is operated from the United States. By using the service, you understand information may be processed in the U.S. We aim to comply with applicable laws, including GDPR where relevant.
11. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correction, deletion, and portability of personal data we hold. You may also manage cookie and analytics preferences in your browser or via provider opt-out tools. To submit a request, contact us.
12. Policy Updates
We may update this policy to reflect operational or legal changes. Material updates will be reflected by revising the "Last Updated" date and, where appropriate, posting a notice.
13. Contact
For privacy questions or requests, please Contact Us.
In short: JsonFormatter does not sell personal data. We use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to improve the product, and Google AdSense to support free access. We keep formatter payload processing local where described, and protect the limited information we do process.
